Your Excellency,

WITH reference to our conversation of the 11th instant ou the subject of the date

Foreign Office, May 18, 1911. of meeting of the proposed Opium Conference at The Hague, I have the honour to inform you that, in reply to my note of the 4th instant, a copy of which was sent to you on that date, the Netherlands Minister has notified me that his Government have now decided to postpone the conference indefinitely.

Baron Gericke adds that the Netherlands Minister for Foreign Affairs has informed the interested Powers of the readiness of the Government of India to prohibit, if desired, the export of opium to prohibitionist countries, and to take all necessary measures independently of the meeting of the conference.
